As you help your high school student determine whether to pursue an
engineering technology education, you'll want to do your own investigating.
There are, of course, many resources that can help guide you through
decisions about educational institutions, financial aid, career choices and
more. We'd like to give you a brief overview about what engineering
technology is, some of the many career choices available and how to pay for
college. You'll also want to visit www.asee.org for more information on
engineering and engineering technology.
To see if your child and engineering technology are made for each other,
start with the National Engineering Aptitude Search+ (NEAS+). This survey
helps you and your child determine how well prepared he or she is to
enter an engineering or engineering technology program in college. It's a
self-administered survey that identifies your child's strengths and
weaknesses in applied mathematics, science and reasoning subjects that are
critical in these fields. Students may take the test throughout their high
school years to continuously gauge their progress. NEAS+ surveys cost $15
each. To order, or for information, contact JETS-NEAS+ at (703) 548-5387 or
1420 King Street, Suite 405, Alexandria, VA 22314-2794.
