Okay, so maybe I went over the top a little but I've been working hard and learning incredible things in my position with an Ohio-based aerospace company — so I rewarded myself with a new car.

I'm David Van Deren and I graduated in 1999 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. I got a job right out of school and things haven't really slowed down since. I'm transitioning into my third promotion so far, heading back to Ohio to help our company establish "leaner" processes. It's great because what I'm being asked to do is almost exactly what I learned from Professor Mott at school.

I've spent the past year in R&D working on carbon friction materials used in aircraft brake assemblies — I've worked in everything from textile operations to high temperature/high vacuum furnaces.

I can't speak for anyone else, but if you think engineering technology is for you — you're in for some cool experiences and some even better career choices.

Good luck!
